Spotlighted News: Rockin’ First Lady of France

The first lady of France, Carla Bruni-Sarkozangy, sang live on the BBC on the night of September 16, 2008. The other performers were the Kings of Leon and Metallica. The album she released in July 2008 soared to the head of the charts in France. The album’s title is As If Nothing Has Happened.

Formerly a model, she began her musical career in 1997 as a singer and songwriter. In 1999 Julien Cleric composed an album released in 2000 Si j’étais elle. This album contains seven compositions that use her lyrics. She released a debut Someone Told Me album in 2002 that was successful in French speaking countries. The movie Conversations with Other Women released in 2005 used three of her songs from her debut album. It was a Hans Canosa film.

She has also recorded the Serge Gainsbourg song Those Little Things. No Promises is her second album released in 2006. She records with Naïve, which is an independent company in France.

She was born Italian in 1967 on December 23rd. She married Nicolas Sarkozy, who is the president of France in February of 2008. She is now a naturalized citizen of France.
