Switchback: Great Music Duo

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Switchback first recorded in 1994; the album was Ain’t Going Back. Fitzgerald toured with Clifton Chenier in the 80’s and took mandolin lessons from Jethro Burns.  He also plays guitar. McCormack won an award as a voice student at the American Conservatory of Chicago for his gorgeous tenor voice and he plays bass.  Both of them were in Terrence ‘Cuz’ Teahan’s group, which played Irish roots music. McCormack and Fitzgerald were some of the last musicians to benefit from Teahan’s genius. They have also played with Kansas, the Moody Blues, Tempest, Leon Russell, and Lloyd Maines.

Some of the other musicians that influenced their music are Stevie Ray Vaughan and Rodney Crowell and listening to such greats engendered an urge in them to create their own songs.

This duo brings so much musically to their songs: harmonies dripping with beauty, sensitive and strong instrumentals, and lyrics that draw pictures and scenes in the listener’s mind. Their newest album is Ghosts of the River Folk.

Switchback is involved in music education programs and songwriting workshops.
