What About Upbeat Rock Love Songs?

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Some rock love songs are sad and full of angst, but others are happy. Being a Beatles fan I’d have to name some of their songs like And I Love Her, Love, Love Me Do, Something, I Feel Fine, and Eight Days A Week.

These are some more great upbeat love songs:  How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) by James Taylor, Layla by Derick and the Dominoes,  Chapel of Love by the Dixie Cups, though that’s getting into the Soul genre.  Ponyno has several upbeat rock love songs to their credit like Stone Cold Love.  Another good one is I Got You Babe by Sonny and Cher. Sweet Delilah by the Sea Dragons is a good love song.

Rod Stewart sings some upbeat love tunes on his CD As Time Goes By: The Great American Songbook Volume II. He gets into the songs of the crooners and does a fantastic job. Some of those wonderful love songs are Our Love is Here to Stay, I Only Have Eyes For You, and As Time Goes By. Queen Latifah helps with this duet. They aren’t rock songs, but they are sung by a rocker.

Until next time, think about your favorite love songs. Are they upbeat?

Bettye Lavette Forty-three Years and Wailing

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Bettye Lavette is still a high energy singer with great stage presence. She has showcased her tremendous versatility throughout her career by singing everything from jazz, blues, gospel, pop, rhythm and blues to folk. The way she sings these various genres tends to make a wonderful, soulful melting pot of the sounds.

Lavette puts so much emotion into her music, the embodiment of emotion includes musing, heartbroken, sassy, laid bare, happy…you name it, she covers it. Her latest achievement is an interpretive album entitled Interpretations-The British Rock Songbook is coming out on 05/25/10.

Sting Against Dam

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Sting helped to stop a huge dam from being built on the Xingu River in the Amazon around twenty years ago and is in opposition to this project again. According to environmentalists and locals this would destroy nature and the food supply for people living along the river. Opponents say that the energy from the dam would help mining companies more than anyone else.

According to the BBC, Sting, Chief Raoni, and other critics say it would flood big parts of the rain forest and have bad consequences on the fish population that the indigenous people depend on.

Sting formed a new wave band in 1977 along with Stewart Copeland and Henry Padovani. From 1978 to 1983 they created five albums that went to platinum in the United States and in the United Kingdom. They also grabbed six grammy awards.
